HFCC Computer Information Systems

The CIS Department at Henry Ford Community College offers a variety of courses, certifications, and degrees that prepare individuals for careers in the Information Technology (IT) and computer field. Our courses and programs are also frequently taken by IT professioanls and entrepreneurs already employed in the field who want to update their skills set.

Jobs in the IT field are consistently ranked by all major news, goverment, and industry sources as the most in-demand, fastest-growing, highest paying careers in the state, country and world. The 2006 CNN/Money Magazine "Best Jobs in America" report cited IT occupations as the #1 and #7 job in the country. The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics lists computer occupations as 5 out of the top 20 fastest growing occupations in the economy for 2004-2014. A June 3, 2009 Forbes Magazine article citing staffing form Manpower, Inc's first quarter job outlook survey found Information Technology Staff to be one of the top 10 hardest to fill positions in America. The IT industry is a very large field with many specializations within it. It is important for anyone considering a career in IT to understand what these specializatons are and to choose one. Most IT professionals have a basic understanding and familiarity with each specialization, but possess advanced knowledge and skills in only one or two specializations since it is a lifetime endeveor, and hopefully passion, to stay current in each area.
